The short version is: HL7 is a closed standard, unlike the DICOM standard, which requires no fee for implementation and which, therefore, can be regarded as an open standard. Today, we have moved the current development version of DCMRT, the “new” DCMTK module for radiation therapy, to the public source code repository. Today, a new development snapshot of the DCMTK has been made available. This is the seventh snapshot after the official release of version 3.6.0. Again, a couple of minor issues have been fixed that were detected after the publication of the previous version. And, we have also again updated the code for the latest changes to the DICOM standard. Continue reading
About 10 years ago, we started conducting DICOM training courses. At that time we already gained several years of DICOM experience, so we felt confident to talk about something we have a clue about. Our first course was a two-day training about the various aspects of the DICOM standard. Later on, we also offered training courses on our DICOM toolkit DCMTK, a one-day DICOM basics course and several special courses based on what our customers wanted to learn about. And in November this year, we will conduct the first DICOM troubleshooting course (initially, in German language only). Continue reading
In April 2000, a completely new concept has been introduced to the DICOM standard with Supplement 23: Structured Reporting (SR). Only a few month later, we started with the work on a new DCMTK module “dcmsr”. The intended purpose of this module was to support the DICOM viewer DICOMscope that was extended at that time to fulfill the requirements of the “DICOM Security Demonstration” sponsored by the NEMA Committee for the Advancement of DICOM and the DICOM Working Group 14 (Security).
