A few days ago, the 2015b edition of the DICOM standard has been made available on the NEMA server. Compared to the previous edition from February this year, 2 supplements and 12 correction items (CPs) have been incorporated. The standard text now consists of 5,290 pages (PDF version).
The supplements and a selection of the correction items are:
- Supplement 155: Imaging Reports using HL7 Clinical Document Architecture
- Supplement 173: Wide Field Ophthalmic Photography Image Storage SOP Classes
- CP 375: Correct Context Groups for Intra-oral anatomy
- CP 1425: Tab character should be permitted be in text VRs (ST, LT, UT)
- CP 1426: Correct condition in Pixel Measures, Plane Position and Orientation Functional Groups for Segmentation
- CP 1428: Use Pixel Measures in Enhanced US Volume
The complete list of correction items incorporated and an overview of the changes to the existing 20 parts of the DICOM standard can be found in the official release notes. Details on the changes from the previous edition are shown highlighted in the files with the word “changes” in the filename.
We have taken the opportunity to update the current development version of the DCMTK again regarding the data dictionary, i.e. we have generated the “dicom.dic” file from the machine-readable DocBook version of part 6 and 7 of the DICOM standard. Since the data dictionary was already up-to-date regarding the recently approved Supplements and CPs, there are no changes apart from the name of the underlying DICOM standard edition.
