Two days ago, the 2015c edition of the DICOM standard has been made available on the NEMA server. Compared to the previous edition from April this year, 2 supplements and 15 correction items (CPs) have been incorporated. The standard text now consists of 5,312 pages (PDF version).
The supplements and a selection of the correction items are:
- Supplement 180: MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 Transfer Syntax
- Supplement 186: Extensible SR Storage SOP Class
- CP 812: Clarification that Pixel Padding Value is a raw value before any transformation
- CP 1402: Add UI Value Representation to Hanging Protocol Selector attributes
- CP 1411: Add attributes describing safe or unsafe private elements
- CP 1443: Additional N-GET Service for UPS Push
The complete list of correction items incorporated and an overview of the changes to the existing 20 parts of the DICOM standard can be found in the official release notes. Details on the changes from the previous edition are shown highlighted in the files with the word “changes” in the filename.
We have taken the opportunity to update the current development version of the DCMTK again regarding the data dictionary, i.e. we have generated the “dicom.dic” file from the machine-readable DocBook version of part 6 and 7 of the DICOM standard. We have also updated the “DICOM Controlled Terminology Definitions” (i.e. coding scheme “DCM”) based on a machine-readable version of part 16 (DICOM Content Mapping Resource). These definitions (currently, consisting of 3,156 codes) were introduced only recently to the DCMTK. Of course, also the new Transfer Syntax UIDs from Supplement 180 and the new SOP Class UID from Supplement 186 were already added to the respective source files.
